River Aherlow Field Trip
Today we had a very enjoyable field trip to the River Aherlow as part of our Science snd Green Schools programme. ๐ We were investigating water quality and exploring marine life right here in our local area!
A huge thank you to John and James from Inland Fisheries Ireland, who led the trip. They were knowledgeable and patient, showing us how to find insects under stones and helping us identify the fish in the river — including trout, salmon, eel, and stone loach! Some pupils even got to hold the fish before they were safely returned to the water. ๐ ๐ชฑ
We’re delighted to report that the water quality in the river is good, based on the aquatic life we found๐ง
A special thanks also to local farmer Tim Blackburn for welcoming us onto his farm and making the trip possible.๐ฑ๐โ๏ธ
