Pete & Rwanda.
Our 5th & 6th classes had a truly engaging and insightful talk today with Pete McDonald from Blues Creamery in Aherlow. Pete visited us to share his inspiring work with a farmers co-op in Rwanda, where he is developing a project to establish a sustainable cheese-making business with local communities. By passing on his expertise, the aim is to help subsistence farmers create a reliable source of income—not only through cheese production but also by developing opportunities in agri-tourism. Impressively, the entire project is designed to be fully carbon neutral.
This visit strongly connected with our recent learning about Uamahoro and her family in Rwanda through this year’s Trócaire box. Like millions of others in the country, they face significant challenges due to poverty, making Pete’s initiative all the more meaningful and impactful.
In addition to discussing his project, Pete also gave us fascinating insights into the history, geography, and wildlife of East Africa, making the session both educational and enjoyable.
It was a wonderful morning of learning, and we are extremely grateful to Pete for so generously sharing his time, knowledge, and passion with us.
