Blue Star Programme🇪🇺
We were delighted to welcome Billy Kelleher and Niall Collins to Galbally NS today for a very special visit as part of our Blue Star Programme.
Principal, Mr. Kearney, began by thanking Ms. Davern for organising such a wonderful event, and Ms. Davern and Ms. Ryan for the fantastic work done with their classes. He also expressed sincere gratitude to Billy Kelleher for his visit and warmly welcomed Minister Niall Collins, acknowledging his continued support—particularly in securing substantial funding for our Autism Class and recent Mechanical and Electrical upgrade.
Both guests were generous with their time and engaged brilliantly with the children. They spoke about the history of the European Union, Ireland’s development since joining, and highlighted two key moments in Irish history—the 1918 vote for independence and joining the EU in 1972. They also gave high praise to the children for their colourful and engaging projects.
During a Q&A session, Billy Kelleher spoke in a patient, child-friendly way, while Niall Collins shared insights into his work as a TD and Minister. There was some light-hearted banter about Sunday’s big game, and Noah Morrissey’s question about Limerick versus Cork drew a smile. The children also asked some difficult questions, particularly about rising prices. They seemed satisfied with the answers. In a follow-up poll, many senior pupils said they would vote for the visitors, appreciating their friendly and relaxed manner.
It was an enjoyable and educational visit for all giving pupils a valuable insight into democracy, inclusion, and global citizenship.
Thank you to both of our distinguished visitors for making the day so memorable.🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺
